In what seemingly has been the longest off season in program history, the Indiana Hoosiers finally kick off their 2017-18 campaign against Indiana State tonight at 7 p.m. in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers are coming off of a disappointing 2016-17 season which began with so much hope in Hawaii after the Hoosiers knocked off Kansas, only for it all to come crashing down and the eventual firing of Tom Crean.
Enter the new era led by new head coach Archie Miller.
The Hoosiers did lose some talent however, and must rebuild both the roster and a culture in what is seen as a transitional year. No longer will IU have O.G. Anunoby, James Blackmon Jr., or Thomas Bryant as all 3 left for the NBA
There are several newcomers who are looking to step in and contribute right away as coach Miller was able to lock down the recruits Crean already had coming here: led by Al Durham, Race Thompson, and Clifton Moore.
The Hoosiers were impressive on the defensive end of the court during the exhibition schedule in which they went 2-0, defeating Marion University 93-62, and U-Indy 74-53.
Indiana State is coming off of a disappointing season as well in which they went 11-20. This season they kicked off at Purdue to open the exhibition slate. In Mackey, they held tough but fell in the end by a score of 94-72. After that, they defeated Marion 84-64.
Something’s Gotta Give:
Indiana has won its last 32 home openers, and have won 17 of the previous 22 meetings.
Indiana State has won 19 straight season openers both home or away.
How to Watch:
This game will be broadcasted on BTN Plus, which requires a bullshit subscription if I must say.
To hell with BTN Plus and Directv trying to get more money, listen to Fish on the IU Radio Network starting at 6 with the pregame, the tip is at 7.
