Indianapolis Colts general manager stated on Monday during a press conference that Andrew Luck starting his throwing regiment, working his way toward a week 1 comeback. Luck is expected to be ready to go by week 1 vs the Rams, however he will start training camp on the NFLS PUP list (physically unable to perform). The definition of the PUP list is as follows
Physically unable to perform (PUP) is a designation used in the National Football League for players who suffer from football-related injuries during the preseason. Players on the PUP list may participate in team meetings, and take advantage of the training and medical facilities, but cannot practice with the team. There are two separate PUP lists: a preseason PUP list and a regular-season PUP list.
Luck will be on the preseason PUP list and be able to come off any time. He will not be able to practice, but can take advantage of the facilities, trainers, and anything at the Colts complex he needs.
I would expect Luck to continue his training on the side until he is ready to take the majority of the throws in practice with the starters.
Because of the recovery schedule, it opens up an intriguing battle for the backup position which we will cover soon.
